Role: Lead UX Designer & Researcher
Timeline: 24 hours
Tools: Figma, Invision, Slack
Type: Academic at BrainStation hackathon
Team: 3 UX Designers and 2 Web Developers
CHALLENGE
Shutterstock has many creators who are delivering work using
Shutterstock images, videos, music, 3D and/or tools.

How can your team create an experience that allows creators to share
their work on shutterstock.com to inspire others visiting the site?
PROBLEM SPACE
Creators don’t have a space to share their work on Shutterstock.
TARGET: Creators who want to share their work don’t have a space to do so.

WHY: Because creators want to share their work to inspire others as well as promote their work.
SECONDARY RESEARCH

Shutterstock does not have an existing platform for creators to share their work with the community, as confirmed by our mentor at Shutterstock.

No such platform is found on competitor's websites. This could give Shutterstock a competitive advantage in leading the market.

Creators & Contributors want to share their work to showcase their work, gain more online traction, and inspire others.
OUR GOAL
Help provide a platform on Shutterstock's website for the creators to share their work and inspire others.
How Might We
Create an experience that allows creators to share
their work on Shutterstock as a way to inspire others that visit their site?

NEXT STEPS
FEATURE

FINAL THOUGHTS
In short, this was an intense but rewarding experience.

Throughout the bootcamp, we had many short and intense sprints which were also rewarding in their own way. But this experience took it to another level, we were able to collaborate with developers and experience what is like to engage with crucial team members to make the project come to life. Communication, patience, and empathy were skills that we had to use from beginning to end.

Thus, I feel grateful to have formed part of this team because we all came to this hackathon with dedication and an open mind. All the elements combined proved to work very well as we were chosen as the top team.
